The Objectives of this work package is to characterize and optimize the radio access network scheduling on per service and per user basis in support of real time applications. Particular focus will be given in making the LTE/LTE-A scheduling programmable and reconfigurable by applications. A set of real time experiments will be carried out in this work package that will make use of the existing OpenAirInterface platform and the scheduling framework for the considered scenarios. The experiment campaign will be carried out in two stage. First we characterize the performance of the baseline scheduler and identify when and where the scheduler fails to meet the application-specific requirements. As a result of this first stage, the OpenAirInterface scheduling framework will be upgraded to support dynamic programmability when static scheduling is not enough. To this end, we will leverage and extend the Femto Forum MAC scheduling interface to open interfaces to monitor and reconfigure the scheduler. In addition we compare a set of off the shelf antennas in an on-body configuration.
